Olufemi Soneye, the group’s spokesperson, made a statement in reaction to a viral video alleging that the NNPCL supplied substandard petrol that did not stay long in fuel tanks.

In his statement, he noted that the video contradicted itself, given that the both fuels in the video was from the Dangote refinery.

Dangote vs NNPC video

The video in question was put together by an influencer who bought petrol from two filling stations, one from the NNPCL station, which supposedly sells its fuel, and the other from an MRS station, which exclusively sells Dangote fuel.

He took both fuels to his home to power two separate generators.

The generator with the fuel purchased from the NNPCL filling station only lasted 17 minutes, 51 seconds, while the generator powered by the fuel from the MRS station lasted for 30 minutes 51 seconds, indicating a 13-minute higher performance from Dangote’s fuel.

However, as mentioned earlier, the NNPCL’s spokesperson noted that NNPCL filling stations purchase fuel from the Dangote refinery, suggesting that the video is spreading misinformation.

NNPC’s response

“It is important to emphasize that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.

“Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to our consumers,” the NNPC declared.

“The NNPC Ltd strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.

“This assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight,” the statement said.

“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians.

Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations.

Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the group added.
