Daimler Truck and ARX Robotics have announced a strategic partnership to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into military land vehicles.
The collaboration will focus on incorporating robotics and AI into Daimler Truck’s Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, including the Unimog and Zetros models, using ARX Robotics’ Mithra OS operating system.
Following integration, the two firms will conduct a testing campaign to enhance networking, teleoperation, and autonomous capabilities.
“Digitalization and AI will play a key role in the defence sector, especially in cyber defense, defense logistics and international cooperation,” said Daniel Zittel, Head of Defence Sales, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks at Daimler Truck.
ARX Robotics emphasized that land forces must adopt software-defined capabilities to “be an efficient part of the NATO armed forces.”
Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of ARX Robotics, stated that the collaboration project “follows a European approach and aims to strengthen the innovative power and competitiveness of the European defense industry.”
Integration of Mithra Operating System
ARX Robotics’ Mithra OS will enable vehicle fleets to connect with other software-defined systems, including drones.
The system supports multi-domain operations, coordinating missions across ground and air assets.
The ARX Core will serve as the central computing unit, integrating sensors, cameras, and radio systems for object recognition and data processing.
Moreover, AI capabilities enable autonomous navigation, remote landmine clearance, and casualty evacuation without endangering crew members.
