Rally Sparks Economic Growth

Since the WRC Safari Rally returned to Kenya in 2021, Naivasha has attracted motorsport fans from around the world. For five years, thousands have gathered to witness rally cars conquer rugged terrains, blending adrenaline, nature, and culture.

Beyond the thrill, the event drives economic growth, benefiting local traders, hawkers, and small businesses. Many rely on rally season as a prime opportunity to increase earnings.

M-PESA Powers Seamless Transactions

For four days, Naivasha’s vast ranches transform into bustling markets, where vendors sell food, drinks, camping gear, and souvenirs. With large crowds and fast-paced transactions, M-PESA has become essential for both traders and customers.

Samuel Osore, a food vendor, credits cashless payments for streamlining his operations. “I always prefer M-PESA because it’s convenient. My Lipa Na M-PESA Till saves me time, allowing me to serve more customers. Most people no longer carry cash, so this makes transactions quick and safe.”

Leather goods vendor Saitoti Kennedy Menga shares a similar experience. “I’ve never missed a rally since I started selling here. M-PESA makes business easy—I don’t have to look for change, and customers sometimes cover withdrawal fees, boosting my profits.”

John Mwangi, a soft drink vendor from Nakuru, highlights the benefits of Pochi La Biashara. “It prevents transaction reversals and secures my earnings. Last year’s business was better due to the economy, but I still see value in coming here.”

Beyond direct sales, cashless transactions have improved security for vendors by reducing the risk of theft. With large crowds, carrying physical cash poses risks, but mobile money ensures traders do not have to worry about losses.

With cashless payments enhancing efficiency, security, and convenience, vendors continue to thrive at the WRC Safari Rally, reinforcing the event’s role as a business hub. As digital transactions grow, more small businesses are embracing cashless solutions to expand their customer base and increase revenue.
