Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) has officially formalized a contractual agreement with Ethio telecom to accelerate the digital transformation of Cameroon.

The two operators signed a historic Master Service Agreement (MSA), solidifying a collaborative relationship that began when CAMTEL executives visited Ethiopia in April 2025.

During that initial benchmarking visit, CAMTEL leadership observed firsthand the pivotal role Ethio telecom has played in accelerating the “Digital Ethiopia” national agenda. This engagement highlighted Ethio telecom’s exemplary leadership, robust project execution, and commercial expertise, demonstrated through its comprehensive portfolio of innovative digital solutions for individuals and enterprises.

Motivated by this execution model, CAMTEL sought to replicate similar digital achievements in Cameroon. CAMTEL’s primary strategic objective is to catalyze a thriving national digital economy, characterized by the digitalization of government services, the introduction of inclusive digital financial solutions, and wireless network modernization. To this end, it has selected Ethio telecom as its strategic partner to support this vision.

Through this partnership, Ethio telecom will provide high-level consultancy and cross-immersion opportunities to help CAMTEL navigate and realize Cameroon’s transformation. The partnership focuses on implementing solutions across four specific strategic pillars:

Mobile Money Innovation: Development and launch of the “Blue Money” electronic payment service to drive financial inclusion.

Sovereign Infrastructure: Support for the digitization of public services and the establishment of a sovereign Government Cloud.

Network Modernization: Strategic support for network upgrades to 4G, 5G, and innovative solutions for superior connectivity.

Organizational Transformation: Supporting CAMTEL’s organizational shift, specifically regarding information systems, work system automation, and customer-centric culture.

Beyond these core pillars, the agreement creates a dynamic framework for broader collaboration. As the partnership evolves, the scope will expand to include strategic cooperation in innovative Enterprise solutions, Digital Lifestyle Services, Interconnect frameworks, and the rollout of Value-Added Services (VAS).

Through this strategic synergy, CAMTEL is empowered to accelerate the comprehensive digitalization of Cameroon, fostering a robust digital economy that delivers inclusive value to its citizens. In parallel, for Ethio telecom, this alliance creates a direct pathway to operationalize its ‘Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy.’ In doing so, the company is successfully navigating ‘beyond’ domestic borders, demonstrating its capacity to lead digital transformation on a regional scale.
