Denver Broncos kicker Brett Maher is evidently still wrestling his demons from last season’s awful playoffs with the Dallas Cowboys when he became the first player in NFL history to miss four consecutive extra points.
Maher, 33, now missed two straight field goals in a preseason game for Denver against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night at University of Phoenix Stadium.

He left Broncos head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Russell Wilson looking exactly how Dak Prescott looked in the postseason win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The first FG attempt went wide right and the second was tipped by a special teams player for Arizona.
Maher was not the only kicker to miss in the contest. He is battling with Elliott Fry, who missed one FG, for the starting position.

Maher had another blunder the following postseason game before head coach Mike McCarthy was forced to just start going for it on fourth down.
Denver gave Maher a shot in spite of his epic struggles and will need to get his mindset right as soon as possible if he wants to remain in the league.
Payton, however, might have seen enough in just one preseason game. Broncos have two preseason contests remaining.
Broncos lost 17-18 thanks to a touchdown and two-point conversion by the Cardinals with two seconds left in the game.
