BRICS invited six new countries to join the bloc during last year’s summit in Johannesburg. The 15th summit in August saw the alliance inviting Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia. However, Argentina was the first country to decline BRICS membership as the newly-elected President Javier Milei is skeptical about the bloc. In addition, Saudi Arabia has yet to accept the invitation and is reconsidering its options to join the group.

Read here to know why Saudi Arabia could also reject BRICS membership and be a part of the global grouping. On the heels of these countries’ declining membership, BRICS is now opening up its arms to Argentina again.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova opened up by saying that Argentina is always welcome to be a part of BRICS. “The question is to what extent the Argentina leadership will reflect the will of the Argentinian people, and we (BRICS) are not closing our doors,” said Zakharova to Tass.

Zakharova explained that BRICS brings a plethora of opportunities for developing countries to advance their native economies and local currencies. There is simply no disadvantage in joining the alliance as all countries have something new to offer, she said.

“There is not a single disadvantage, there are no costs. These are important decisions that are developed on the basis of mutual respect, consideration of interests, equality and bring positive results for each country,” she pointed out.
