Following the six-country expansion that took place at the global summit last week, the BRICS now account for almost half of the entire global population. The bloc had long held a massive amount of the global population, with its recent expansion efforts pushing it further. Moreover, countries like Ethiopia boast high population growth rates, which could only drive the percentage higher in the coming years.

The expansion has been an overwhelming positive for the bloc in a myriad of ways. Additionally, the expansion plan has brought the alliance its first trillion-dollar economy in the form of Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the bloc has been catapulted to 29% of the global GDP. Conversely, its exported goods now account for 25% of global output. Subsequently benefiting from a small boost from its expanded membership.
