The US Air Force Research Laboratory has awarded a $48-million contract to BAE Systems to further develop an existing data analytics tool used by military intelligence analysts.

Originally developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Insight system helps process tons of complex data from multiple sources into actionable intelligence.

It uses “multiple intelligence signal processing, domain analysis multi-level fusion, predictive analytics, machine learning, and automation to fill gaps in today’s military intelligence analysis capability,” BAE explained.

As part of the contract, new enhancements will be made to the system to allow it to process intelligence from multiple sources, including sensors, satellites, drones, and human intelligence.

Integration With Airborne Applications

A key focus will be on its integration with airborne applications such as Resolute Sentry, providing battlespace awareness in highly-contested environments.

Integration with developmental and operational systems will be accompanied by modeling, simulation, algorithm development, assessment, and demonstration.

“This latest Insight award demonstrates the confidence the government has in BAE Systems’ ability to deliver complex solutions to tough operational and intelligence challenges,” BAE Mission Systems product line director Meg Redlin said.

“This also highlights our collaboration with our FAST Labs research and development organization, and our commitment to developing and eventually transitioning technology.”

Work will be performed in San Diego, with engineering teams spread out across the US.
