Azerbaijan Condoles With Kenya’s Flood Victims, Sheds Light on COP29
Being a representative of a COP 29 presidency country, and a member of the Organizing Committee for COP 29 Azerbaijan has embraced the duty with the utmost respect, significant chance in the fight against climate change as well as a sign of the global community’s confidence.
In a statement read by Aygun Aliyeva, member of the COP29 Organizing Committee in Azerbaijan, Executive director of the State Support Agency for NGOs of the Republic of Azerbaijan “Unfortunately, nearly a week ago, the Kenya had experienced a disaster in the form a nationwide floods, and according to the statistics from the official sources, more than 1.8 million people have suffered from the above-mentioned disaster and I am deeply sorry that nearly 200 people have lost their lives”
This tragedy again clearly poses that the climate change effects a serious threat to the national security, public safety and the ecological sustainability. And today Azerbaijani NGO’s as an act of friendship will take a part at the “National tree growing day”, dedicated to the people who suffered from the natural disaster change – flood.
“It is now clear that proper funding is one of the crucial elements needed to minimize the damage caused by all-natural disasters. And one of the main focuses of COP 29 is this significant direction. Finance mobilization for mitigation, adaptation, loss, and damage will be essential to our efforts. We call all parties involved—countries, international organizations, international financial institutions, and the business sector— to work together in order defeat this issue” Implored Aygun Aliyeva.
As a COP 29 Presidency country, Azerbaijan has taken action by issuing a presidential declaration stating year 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year.” This slogan underlines the country’s commitment to the global fight and places a greater focus on building partnerships at the national, regional, and international levels. Also, playing a role of a bridge between developing and developed countries.
The only possible option to win all the afore-mentioned issues is Unity of all stakeholders (IGO’s, NGO’s and Private sector). The key to achieving the Cancensus in ecological platform requires all voices should be heard and respected, regardless of geography, size and economic status.
She added that “The best example for this case is newly enhancing Azerbaijani-Kenian NGO’s cooperation platform. There are a lot of initiatives already and one of the recent events was the suggestion which came from the Azerbaijan Embassy in the Republic of Kenya. So on May 8th a day before the 69th Civil Society Conference, 2 friendly nations NGO’s exchanged their thoughts and planned the future strategy. So we do hope that this kind of contributions will get the nations closer to each other day by day and empower next generations for the sustainable future”
Azerbaijan is poised to host this year’s COP29 climate change summit after winning backing from other Eastern European nations last year.
