The Australian Army has reordered a Vegvisir mixed reality-based situational awareness solution for further experimentation and exploration of its possible applications.

A previous purchase proved the technology’s effectiveness and potential, the Estonian-Croatian startup stated in a press release.

The system was tested on modified M113 armoured personnel carriers, both crewed and optionally-crewed, to see whether the technology could enhance the platforms’ effectiveness.

Further Refinement

Collaboration with the Australian Army allowed the system’s further refinement and enhancement, according to the company.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the overwhelmingly positive feedback,” Vegvisir CEO Ingvar Pärnamae said.

“It’s a true testament to the hard work and dedication we’ve put into developing a reliable and effective product. This follow-up order reinforces our confidence in the significant value Vegvisir delivers to the modern battlefield.”

A combination of vehicle-mounted cameras, immersive headsets, and real-time data overlay capability, the technology provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings.

The thermal sensor-equipped system is available in two versions: Vegvisir Core and Vegvisir Remote.

Vegvisir Core can be mounted on manned vehicles such as main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, engineering vehicles, and maritime vessels.

Vegvisir Remote, meanwhile, can be mounted on unmanned ground vehicles, unmanned maritime systems, and optionally-manned or robotic platforms in both land and marine domains.

“This innovative solution operates with ultra-low latency, significantly enhancing situational awareness and enabling better decision-making in complex environments,” the company said.
