Austal has opened a maintenance facility at the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard base in Hart’s Cut, Chaguaramas.
The site will be dedicated to the maintenance of the Caribbean nation’s Cape-class Patrol Vessels delivered by Austal in 2021.
The maintenance facility’s construction is a part of the shipbuilder’s commitment to an In Service Support Agreement with the country signed back in 2022, after it won a contract to construct two Cape-class boats in August 2019.
Collaborating for Growth
Austal Australia Chief Operating Officer Ian McMillan said that the company will be focusing on inventory management, collaborative servicing, and other state-of-the-art maintenance practices with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard as they operate in the brand-new facility.
“We look forward to supporting the Cape-class Patrol Vessels currently in service, and any future platforms that may further enhance Trinidad and Tobago’s maritime security,” he added.
Austal’s maintenance facility crew includes three Australians and five Trinbagonians in the maritime technology field.
Austal has delivered a total of 13 vessels to the country since 2010, bolstering its patrolling force’s capabilities in intercepting illegal drug trade and other border protection missions.
