The
Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) recently celebrated
Taxpayer Appreciation Day, an event dedicated to honouring the contributions of taxpayers to the nation’s development. The ceremony featured key addresses from Mr. Logan Wort, Executive Secretary of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), and Mr. Sam Shivute, Commissioner of NamRA and ATAF Council Vice-Chairman.

Mr. Wort emphasized the critical role of taxpayers in fostering economic growth and sustaining public services. He highlighted the importance of a collaborative relationship between tax authorities and citizens, noting that such partnerships are essential for building trust and enhancing voluntary compliance. 

“NamRA is a story of real transformation and has a brilliant leader and top management that I met today.”

The executive secretary also commended NamRA for its initiatives aimed at recognizing and rewarding compliant taxpayers, suggesting that these efforts set a commendable precedent for other tax administrations across the continent.

Following his remarks, Commissioner Shivute expressed gratitude to the nation’s taxpayers for their unwavering commitment to fulfilling their tax obligations. He reiterated NamRA’s dedication to providing efficient and transparent services, aiming to simplify tax processes and reduce compliance burdens. Mr. Shivute also outlined upcoming reforms designed to enhance the taxpayer experience, including the implementation of digital platforms for easier tax filing and payment.

The event underscored the mutual benefits of a respectful and transparent relationship between tax authorities and taxpayers. Mr. Shivute further expressed appreciation to ATAF for the technical assistance extended to NamRA, and particularly conveyed gratitude to Mr Wort, who was in attendance as the Guest of Honour.
