The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) completed its advanced tax audit course, hosted by the
Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) at the Integrated Customs Clearance Centre (ICCC) in Plaine Magnien, Mauritius. The course was the final component of ATAF’s blended tax audit programme, offering participants an in-depth exploration of the complexities of tax auditing.

The course was designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of tax principles, enhanced by various real-world case studies. It not only reinforces the framework for conducting tax audits but also prepares participants to apply their knowledge in specific areas such as
Value-Added Tax (VAT), Personal Income Tax (PIT), and Corporate Income Tax (CIT). This advanced-level training provided participants with a solid foundation in tax audits and the opportunity to delve into complex tax audit issues and specialised sectors, ensuring they were well-prepared for real-world challenges.

With 68 participants from thirteen countries, including Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Madagascar, Morocco, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, the course demonstrated a collaborative spirit and commitment to enhancing tax audit practices across the continent.

The course also emphasised auditing specialised sectors, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the value chain in selected industries. Focusing on sector-specific auditing is crucial for addressing the unique challenges associated with different economic activities. The blended tax audit programme, structured across three progressive levels: basic, intermediate and advanced, is examinable at each stage, ensuring participants gain knowledge and demonstrate their competency.
