25–27 August — ATAF organised a study tour to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in partnership with the World Bank Group. The visit forms part of a wider effort to expand the tax base, improve compliance, and curb tax evasion and fraud.
KRA is investing in advanced data analytics and staff training to strengthen compliance risk management. A key step is the creation of a Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics, designed to serve KRA and, over time, other public institutions.
During the tour, KRA’s Exchange of Information Unit and CRS Team received hands-on training in processing financial account data shared under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS). Sessions covered mapping data flows, analysing CRS data, and applying risk management tools to support compliance activities.
The mission highlighted the value of peer-to-peer learning. MRA shared practical methods and systems for using data in tax administration. With continued support from ATAF, KRA is better positioned to use data as a strategic asset for smarter tax administration and stronger revenue mobilisation.
