Apply for the Second Edition of the 1952 Africa Art Accelerator Programme!

Application for the second edition of the 1952 Africa Art Accelerator Programme is now open.  This annual programme serves as a career accelerator for emerging artists, offering resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help them develop a successful art practice. Regardless of the medium, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, performance art, installation, and digital, artists from diverse backgrounds and regions of Nigeria are invited to apply!

1952 Africa is an art foundation based in Nigeria, dedicated to the growth of African art, culture, and history, supporting different forms of artistic expression out of Africa. “We believe in the brilliance of African creative talent and it is our goal to build an ecosystem in which artists have the opportunity to grow and thrive,” their mission statement reads. They provide resources to artists to give them the space and tools to create impactful work and utilise their full potential. They work with artists to deepen their artistic practice through education and research opportunities. Their mission is to mentor artists to enhance their personal and professional development and give them tools to participate confidently on an international platform.

1952 Africa is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse community. Artists of all genders, backgrounds, and identities are to apply for the 1952 Arts Accelerator Programme. The application requirements are:

  • Applicants should visit the link in their profile/bio on Instagram and fill out the application form.
  • Applicants are required to upload a picture of one of their works on their Instagram profile as their entry and caption it with details and an explanation of the artwork. Tag them @1952.africa and use the hashtag #1952Africa and #1952AfricaArtsAcceleratorProgramme

The application, which opened up on the 20th of June, 2023, will close on the 7th of July, 2023. The residency will start in September and end in November 2023.
