Amentum has received a $946-million contract to deliver system maintenance and modernization solutions for the US Army’s transport aircraft fleet.

Under the agreement, the firm will provide best practices and capabilities supporting aircraft life-cycle modernization, operations, integration, and logistical solutions.

Amentum will also carry out pilot services and management processes related to aircraft sustainment.

The contract covers 150 transport planes, including the C-12 Huron, C-26 Metroliner, T-6 Texan, and UC-35 Citation.

Throughout the program, Amentum will work with South Carolina industry partner Stevens Aerospace and Defense Systems at its depot maintenance facility.

Work will begin this month and run for a year. A five-year option is included to further support the army’s aircraft maintenance requirements.

Amentum will facilitate corresponding services at various in-country and overseas locations.

The RC-26 is tasked with utilizing its highly mobile platform by making infrared images and video of the fires from above in order to map and detect wildland fires and hotspots in the western region of the United States. The RC-26 crews can detect hotspots before they become fires and help direct teams to those locations. “Leveraging Amentum’s expertise performing these services, this win demonstrates the US Army’s confidence in Amentum’s ability to manage a large-scale complex program while maintaining a quality and long-term solutions approach,” Amentum Critical Missions Group President Karl Spinnenweber said.

“Amentum’s approach to delivering life-cycle aviation solutions enables us to distinguish what we can do for our customers and be the key partner to the customer for this critical mission.”

Leveraging Digital Technologies

According to the Virginia agency, the sustainment framework will incorporate the utility of Amentum’s proprietary Augmented Reality Remote Expert.

Through the digital capability, teams will be able coordinate with off-site safety specialists, engineers, program management offices, and other US government personnel in real-time.

Amentum said that the solution, in addition to other maintenance-augmenting platforms, will aid the company in securing a “technical advantage” while completing the contract.

“Integrating our advanced technologies into our system maintenance and modernization offerings continues to provide our customer with industry leading solutions,” Amentum Sustainment Analytics and Aviation Solutions SVP Joe Kelly stated.
