AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit To Kick Off Tomorrow
It is all systems go for the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit that will be convening over 300 media leaders and practitioners to reflect on how media can adapt to technological changes and address challenges in the industry.
Other key agenda items include signing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) charter against information manipulation and disinformation and advocacy for journalists’ safety against detention or death in the line of duty.
The Summit will happen from May 8-10 in Nairobi, Kenya under the theme “Re-engineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation”.
It will bring together global media leaders, development experts, academics and corporate titans including Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, Ziaad Suleman, Chief Commercial Officer and an Exco Member of EOH, Serah Makka, Executive Director for Engagement and Mobilization for Africa at ONE Campaign, Mamadou Toure, Founder and Chairman of Africa 2.0, Bineta Diop, Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Women and many more.
“We will begin the summit with a session at the University of Nairobi tomorrow where we will engage the youth in the Digizens Circle public youth debate to discuss their place in African media. We will then proceed with the Summit where leaders from the public and private sectors will have their voice as key stakeholders in our practice. As part of the Summit we will be hosting a Excellence Awards Ceremony and gala dinner where we will awarding journalists and media leaders with Lifetime Achievement Awards among other categories. We encourage the media in Kenya to attend and participate,” said Amadou Mahtar Ba, Executive Chairman of AllAfrica Global Media.
The 3-day engagement will feature innovations to leverage the ever-changing media landscape revolutionized by emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality.
To complement the Summit, AllAfrica launched the Newsroom Innovation Youth Challenge in partnership with ONE Campaign for participants to discover new ways to engage Africa’s youth in traditional media to advance African-led solutions to continental and global challenges.
