The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Ahmed Dangiwa, announced that the ministry is working in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure that public buildings are adequately insured.

Dangiwa made this statement during the inauguration of the Board of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) in Abuja.

He emphasized, “The ministry is deeply concerned about the issue of building collapses and has initiated partnerships with relevant agencies to guarantee the insurance of buildings. Estate surveyors play a vital role not only in housing delivery but also in preventing building collapses, which is a key focus for this ministry.

They achieve this by conducting thorough property inspections and assessments that adhere to professional standards. Their commitment to safety and regulatory compliance is essential in safeguarding lives and investments, thereby preventing the unfortunate incidents of building failures that have affected various regions in our country.

Therefore, I urge the board to be innovative and ensure adherence to professional standards.”

Additionally, the Chairman of ESVARBON, Dosu Fatokun, called on the minister to advocate for the professional body’s exemption from the federal government’s recent decision to halt funding for professional organizations and bodies.
