On November 1, 2024, Algeria’s armed forces proudly unveiled their newly acquired Russian-made 1L260 Zoopark-1M counter-battery radar system during a grand military parade. This significant event, commemorating the 70th anniversary of Algeria’s Liberation Revolution, marked the first public display of this advanced radar system, highlighting Algeria’s continued dedication to enhancing its military capabilities in collaboration with its long-standing ally, Russia.

The 1L260 Zoopark-1M Radar System

The 1L260 Zoopark-1M is a state-of-the-art counter-battery radar system designed by Russia to significantly enhance battlefield awareness. It excels at detecting and locating enemy artillery, mortar, and rocket launcher positions. Known for its precision and extended detection range, the Zoopark-1M can identify and track hostile artillery positions from distances up to 35 kilometers. This capability provides commanders with crucial information, enabling them to coordinate rapid and effective counterstrikes.

Equipped with advanced algorithms and designed to operate effectively under intense electronic warfare conditions, the Zoopark-1M can pinpoint multiple targets simultaneously. This feature offers a distinct advantage against conventional artillery and rocket threats. Additionally, the system’s ability to track trajectories and calculate impact points provides critical situational awareness and tactical superiority, ensuring the swift neutralization of enemy firepower.

Strengthening Military Technology

Algeria’s acquisition of the Zoopark-1M radar system is part of its ongoing strategy to modernize its armed forces with high-quality, field-proven military technology. Over the past two decades, Algeria has consistently increased its procurement of Russian military hardware, establishing itself as one of Russia’s most reliable arms customers in North Africa.

These investments are tailored specifically to meet Algerian defense needs and ensure the nation’s armed forces are equipped with the latest and most effective military technology.

A Growing Partnership

This unveiling not only showcases Algeria’s commitment to strengthening its military capabilities but also underscores the robust and growing partnership between Algeria and Russia. By integrating advanced systems like the Zoopark-1M, Algeria continues to enhance its defense posture and maintain its position as a key player in regional security.

The grand military parade on November 1 was not just a celebration of the past but a look forward into a future of enhanced military capabilities and strategic partnerships. As Algeria continues to invest in advanced military technology, it ensures its armed forces remain prepared to meet the challenges of modern warfare.
