The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) website, www.npf.gov.ng, remains inaccessible and flagged as unsafe for users due to an expired Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate, now 15 days past its expiration date of July 4, 2025.
This administrative negligence results in a “Your connection is not private” warning whenever a user visits the website, leaving the user vulnerable to interception by hackers. Additionally, this raises significant concerns about the security of sensitive user data and the NPF’s failure to maintain critical digital infrastructure despite being a national security agency.

With the SSL certificate compromised, the NPF has violated section 7.2 of the guidelines stipulated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for government websites.
Meanwhile, renewing or purchasing a standard SSL certificate typically ranges from $5 to $60 per year, sometimes $1,000, depending on the issuer’s fee, type, and the validation process required.
