The song Calm Down recently broke another record as reported by Chart Data on X, formerly known as Twitter. The hit track by the 24-year-old Nigerian sensation has become the most-streamed Afrobeats song in the United States.

The Nigerian musician’s original version of the mid-tempo smash “Calm Down” was released as the second single from his debut studio album, Rave & Roses in March 2022.

The singer knew he had to capitalize on the growth after it debuted on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart two months after its release, so he featured Gomez to take the song to the next level.

After the feature, the hit became the first one from Africa to spend a year on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the highest-charting single with an Afrobeats musician as the lead performer.

The remix, which has approximately 894 million views on YouTube, is now the most popular music video by a Nigerian artist.

Rema’s name is now also amongst the African acts with global recognition, alongside names like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Tyla, Tito M, and Arya. He belongs to the new wave of African artists selling the African sound be it Afrobeats, Amapiano, or Makosa to a global audience.
