Inaugural WCF Africa Summit Kicks Off in Nairobi

Global Delegates Convene in Kenya

Nairobi is hosting over 70 countries for the first World Chambers Federation (WCF) Africa Summit. The event runs from April 9–10, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The summit is organized by WCF and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI). Absa Bank Kenya is also a key partner.

It brings together global business leaders, investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. Their goal is to shape Africa’s role in international trade.

Importantly, the summit is aligned with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda. This framework aims to boost intra-African trade and reduce barriers.

The theme is “Africa’s Global Future: Integrated, Innovative, and Sustainable.” Discussions will focus on technology, green growth, and inclusive trade.

In particular, experts will explore the role of artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and fintech in driving cross-border commerce.

Leaders Push for Innovation and Inclusion

President William Ruto opened the summit with a strong call for unity and collaboration.

He said chambers of commerce are vital connectors between governments and businesses. Moreover, he emphasized that they empower local entrepreneurs.

“In 2022, 41% of Kenya’s exports went to African countries. That proves our commitment to intra-African trade,” he noted.

Absa Kenya’s Business Banking Director, Elizabeth Wasunna, praised the summit’s relevance.

“This forum brings together the right minds to unlock Africa’s full economic potential,” she said. She also reaffirmed Absa’s commitment to SMEs and women-led businesses.

KNCCI President Erick Rutto spoke about Africa’s $100 billion infrastructure gap. He stressed the importance of trusted networks and trade intelligence.

The summit features keynotes, panels, and networking. Together, these activities aim to drive Africa’s economic transformation.
