According to sources familiar with the issue, a potential breakthrough in the fight between Hamas and Israel may be on the horizon after Hamas expressed consent to a cease-fire in Gaza.

The development has fueled cautious hope among diplomats who have spent months negotiating stalemate talks.

According to the alleged parameters of the deal, Hamas would free half of the captives it still possesses from the October 2023 attack on Israel that sparked the present conflict.

In return, Israel would release several Palestinian prisoners and remove its soldiers from sections of Gaza.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani came to Cairo this week for discussions with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, stepping up diplomatic action, as reported by Bloomberg.

Both parties underscored the need to achieve an agreement and the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza, where more than 2 million people suffer serious shortages of food, medication, and shelter.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed cautious hope, telling Al-Qahera TV that a deal might be achieved “very soon,” if Israel has “political will and good intention.”

Additionally, US Ambassador Mike Huckabee told Israel’s Army Radio that conversations “have apparently started again,” possibly because Hamas “heard that the Israelis are determined to go in very hard.”

He restated the US stance, which is consistent with Israel’s, that Hamas has “no future in Gaza” and must be dismantled as an armed, governmental entity.

“I don’t know what their motivation is, other than maybe to delay things,” Huckabee said, referring to Hamas. “But we just have to keep the focus.”

Back on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and seizing more than 200 captives.

It was the bloodiest single attack on Israel in history, a landmark incident that stunned both the country and the globe.

Israel reacted with a huge military operation in Gaza aimed at eliminating Hamas.

The onslaught, which included unrelenting bombings and a ground invasion, has devastated major portions of the land and precipitated one of the region’s greatest humanitarian crises in decades.

Gaza’s already frail infrastructure has been destroyed, leaving inhabitants with little access to food, clean water, and medical care.

The battle has not only changed Israeli-Palestinian ties, but it has also destabilized regional politics, bringing in mediators like as Egypt and Qatar and raising concerns among world powers.

According to the health ministry administered by Hamas, the conflict has killed over 61,000 Palestinians, and the UN has warned that half a million people in Gaza are in danger of starvation.
