Football is deeply embedded in Africa’s culture and is, by far, one of its most popular sports. Because of this, it is unsurprising that the continent boasts some of the world’s biggest and most iconic stadiums, each steeped in history and national identity. South Africa’s FNB Stadium is probably the continent’s most recognizable stadium, having hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup final. And with a seating capacity of 94,736, it is definitely Africa’s largest stadium. The title of Africa’s second-largest stadium belongs to Egypt’s Misr Stadium with a capacity of 93,940. Other giants include Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, DR Congo’s Stade des Martyrs, and Cairo International Stadium. From Morocco’s Ibn Batouta Stadium to Nigeria’s Moshood Abiola Stadium, these arenas have hosted AFCON finals, FIFA events, and club showdowns. Each stadium reflects Africa’s enduring love for the game, offering fans grand stages to celebrate football’s magic.
