The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has attributed the ongoing power outage in certain areas of the Federal Capital Territory to malfunctioning 132-kilovolt line 182, which runs from Katampe to the AT5 Central Area Transmission Station.
In a statement released on Friday via its official X account, AEDC outlined the affected locations, which include the Federal Secretariat, Wuse Zones 1-7, Central Mosque, Energy Commission, Transcorp Hotel, Eagle Square, Yar’adua Centre, the entire Central Area, TCN Headquarters, CAC Headquarters, NYSC Headquarters, INEC, all of Maitama, Kado Estate, parts of Jabi District, and Areas 7, 8, and 10 in Garki, among others.
While the company did not specify when power will be restored to the impacted areas, it mentioned that the Transmission Company of Nigeria is currently investigating the issue and working to resolve the blackout.
This is to notify residents in the areas surrounding the Federal Secretariat, Wuse Zones 1-7, Central Mosque, Energy Commission, Transcorp Hotel, Eagle Square, Yar’adua Centre, the entire Central Area, TCN Headquarters, CAC Headquarters, NYSC Headquarters, INEC, all of Maitama, Kado Estate, parts of Jabi District, and Areas 7, 8, and 10 in Garki, as well as nearby regions, that the ongoing power outage is due to a fault on the 132kV line 182, which runs from Katampe to the AT5 Central Area Transmission Station.
The TCN team is actively investigating the cause of the outage and is committed to restoring power supply as swiftly as possible, according to the statement.
In addition to the areas mentioned by the electricity distribution company, parts of Dawaki and Dutse Zone 7 have also been without power for over a day.
It is worth noting that AEDC previously announced a two-week power interruption in certain parts of Abuja and Nasarawa State due to the relocation of TCN, the 33KV DC Airport Feeder, and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers.
