Spanish traffic technology company ACISA is testing an advanced AI-powered edge computing system in Granada, Spain, designed to manage priority requests from public transport and emergency vehicles at urban intersections.
The pilot is part of the EU-funded COGNIT project, which aims to reduce reliance on centralized cloud platforms by shifting data processing closer to where it is generated.
At the core of the trial is ACISA’s M-Hub traffic controller, integrated into the COGNIT platform. The system analyzes vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and video data locally in real time, enabling rapid decisions with minimal latency.
For more complex traffic scenarios, it connects to the COGNIT platform by using a digital twin of the intersection to generate AI-driven recommendations. The initiative reflects Europe’s broader push toward secure, intelligent, and future-ready smart mobility infrastructure.
