The Africa-America Institute (AAI) proudly announces its 40th Annual Awards Gala, set for Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This prestigious event, held during the United Nations General Assembly, celebrates the achievements of Africans and the global African diaspora, bringing together global leaders, diplomats, and visionaries.

This year’s theme, “Bridging Cultures & Igniting Futures: Honoring African and Diasporan Visionaries in Arts and Culture,” will feature a Presidential Fireside Chat with H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, and H.E. Joseph Boakai, President of Liberia. Moderated by Jennifer Zabasajja, Bloomberg Television’s Chief Africa Correspondent & Anchor, the conversation will focus on leadership, education, and development across the African continent.

In addition, a special tribute will honor the life and legacy of the late H.E. Dr. Hage Geingob, former President of the Republic of Namibia and an esteemed AAI alumnus. His contributions to education and Namibia’s independence will be remembered by prominent African leaders, including H.E. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, President of Namibia, and H.E. Mrs. Monica Geingos, the 3rd First Lady of Namibia.

Reeta Roy, President and CEO of the Mastercard Foundation, will also be featured for her exemplary leadership in global development. The evening will include performances by the musical group Honey & Vinyl, and ESPN host and 2-Time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike will serve as the gala’s emcee.

Since its founding, AAI’s Annual Awards Gala has celebrated African excellence and fostered cross-continental dialogue. Proceeds from the event support AAI’s educational programs, scholarships, and other initiatives, empowering future African leaders.
