Mathacs Civils is a Venda-based brick manufacturer that provides local support to their area through quality building materials and jobs. PPC is a leading provider of quality building materials in Southern Africa and their Enterprise Development Programme builds strong partnerships with community-focused SMEs and has invested R440 000 into Mathacs Civils by purchasing them in a state-of-the-art brick-making machine.

A growing partnership

PPC and Mathacs Civils’ relationship began in 2006 when Mr. Azwinndini Mathaulula, owner of Mathacs,  first approached PPC to supply him with the quality raw materials he needed to deliver on his commitment to manufacturing high-quality bricks.
In a relatively short time of time, this relationship went from a cash-based business to having a standing credit agreement with PPC for hundreds of thousands of rand. PPC recognised Matchac’s
potential and partnered with them through PPC’s Enterprise Development Programme, providing the business with a silo valued at over R140 000 for the storage of raw materials and a 5 000-litre water tank.

Tripling up

With this new brickmaking machine, Mathacs Civils triples its current capacity. The automated brickmaking machine is capable of producing around 12000 bricks per day while maintaining the necessary quality. This sets the business to continue growing and meet current demand.

Community growth

Mathacs Civils currently employs 42 people, 26 of whom are women, so the addition of the new machine only spells further growth for this community-based business. With the help of PPC’s partnership, they have already opened a second workshop and continue to provide employment and support to their community.
Rajesh Harripersadh, General Manager at PPC Africa, said, “At PPC, we believe in investing in the present to create a better future for all. Our partnership with Mathacs Civils is a testament to this commitment. By providing them with the necessary tools and support, we are empowering the business to grow sustainably and contribute to the development of the communities it serves” which only further cements their partnership.
