Duke Asidere is one of Nigeria’s most celebrated contemporary artists with both domestic and international following. He obtained a first class Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1988.

Asidere went on to teach painting, drawing and art history at the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi for five years before opening a full-time studio to work in Lagos. He was mentored by Gani Odutokun, who had a momumental impact on him and his artistic expression.

Asidere’s work is known for the thick, bold strokes through a wide variety of media including pencil work, oil, acrylic, pastels and transparencies. His work speaks to contemporary African politics. Through visual metaphors, the artist comments on the everyday human drama that surrounds him; political, social, psychological or cultural.

Join the host, Jonas Schwarz Lausten in this month’s episode to share on Asidere’s journey from start to present, what he has in store of his audience and of course, inspiration behind every step.
