The Finnish Defence Forces are buying 40 more Patria 6×6 armored vehicles on top of a deal signed in June.

The 208-million-euro ($222 million) agreement, which saw Finland purchase 91 vehicles last year, included an additional purchase option of up to 70 more carriers.

Primarily designed for troop transport roles, the 6×6 is also suitable for company command, medical evacuation, and other combat support roles.

More than 10 vehicles have already been handed over to Finland’s Pori brigade, and personnel training for the system’s full implementation is scheduled to begin soon.

The purchase is part of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program, a multinational initiative that seeks to equip countries with brand-new, state-of-the-art armored vehicle systems.

The 6×6 in Numbers

The 24,000-kilogram (53,000 pounds) personnel carrier was designed to allow for multi-role configurations.

It can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour on land, and eight kilometers (5 miles) per hour in water if fitted with amphibious capabilities.

Due to its ability to easily adapt to various military needs, it was chosen as the carrier system for the CAVS program by Latvia, Sweden, and Germany to bolster their armored fleets.
