CEO of Take-Two Interactive Strauss Zelnick said in a recent podcast that $70 per copy for GTA 6 “is very very low” for what they offer. “There is a great deal of value offered,” he said indicating that the game could beat all expectations. Zelnick also hinted that customers might have to pay per hour to play the game. The hint, though not official, has let the spirits down of the fans who ultimately want to play the game.

“In terms of our pricing for any entertainment property, basically the algorithm is the value of the expected entertainment usage. Which is to say the per-hour value times the number of expected hours plus the terminal value that’s perceived by the customer in ownership if the title is owned rather than rented or subscribed to. And you’ll see that bears out in every kind of entertainment vehicle. By that standard, our frontline prices are still very, very low because we offer many hours of engagement,” he said.
