The airline stated that services between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport would be restored on May 21, 2026.
The route was temporarily closed in February, but it is now being reopened to accommodate increased demand and strengthen connectivity between Africa and the United States.
The resumption of this route is expected to help both business and leisure tourists by providing easier connectivity between Atlanta and Ethiopian Airlines’ large network throughout Africa.
Speaking on the development, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew emphasized Atlanta’s importance as a significant U.S. market.
He noted that the city continues to see high demand from corporate visitors, tourists, and members of the African diaspora seeking speedy travel to and from Africa.
“The route serves growing demand from business travelers, members of the African diaspora, and tourists seeking convenient access to destinations across the African continent,” he added.
Per a statement released by the airline on its official website, the resumption of direct flights is pivotal owing to the fact that Atlanta is a major economic and cultural hub in the United States, with a sizable African diaspora community.
This new move would ensure that African travelers will have better access not just to said diasporan communities, but also other places in the southeastern United States.
The airline also noted that it currently serves several U.S. locations and is steadily growing its long-haul network.
The resumption of the Atlanta route reflects the airline’s overall objective of expanding its global presence and reinforcing its position as a key link between Africa and international markets.
According to the statement, travelers can book flights on the airline’s official website, mobile app, ticket offices, customer service centers, and authorized travel agencies.
