Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that the BRICS alliance must support member countries. He called their support “essential” in maintaining regional and global stability amid the conflict with Israel.

The remarks were made after his call with India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar. Iran wants the BRICS bloc to lend support while other countries are distancing themselves. The rift is making the Middle Eastern country stand alone, with no support from its adversaries.

I am “Highlighting the importance and position of BRICS as a forum for developing multilateral cooperation,” said the Iranian minister. It was “essential for the institution to play a constructive role at the current juncture in supporting regional and global stability and security,” said Araghchi.

He also said that it is a “necessity” for BRICS to support Iran during the ongoing crisis. The diplomate stressed that the international bodies and organizations must “Condemn the military aggression against Iran.”

The BRICS alliance must condemn the aggression and support member nations. The “aggression and atrocities committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, as well as the consequences for regional and global stability and security,” he said.

S. Jaishankar also made a brief statement about his conversation with Araghchi. “Discussed bilateral matters as also BRICS related issues,” he said on X. Even India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern” over the Middle East situation. However, they have not officially lent support to the country over the escalating tensions.

India chairs the next BRICS summit in New Delhi, and Iran could voice its opinion during the meeting. This includes questioning member nations for not supporting it in times of crisis. The alliance needs a balancing act to support both its member countries and the US.
