Taghazout in Morocco has been ranked among the world’s top trending travel destinations for 2026, according to Tripadvisor’s latest Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Taghazout in Morocco has been ranked among the world’s top trending travel destinations for 2026, according to Tripadvisor’s latest Travellers’ Choice Awards.

The annual awards describe their trending list as featuring “places our community of travellers already love, and places rising fast for 2026,” based on destinations with a high proportion of above-and-beyond reviews. These are locations where popularity is climbing quickly ahead of the new travel year.

Taghazout stands out as Africa’s sole representative on a list otherwise dominated by Europe and North America. Madeira tops the global ranking, followed by Tbilisi and Chicago.

Once a quiet fishing village along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Taghazout has evolved into a global surf and wellness hub. Known for consistent waves, relaxed cafés, yoga retreats, and a growing boutique hospitality scene, the town has become a magnet for digital nomads and experience-driven travellers seeking alternatives to crowded urban centres.

Its rise reflects a broader shift in travel patterns, where visitors increasingly prioritise nature, authenticity, and lifestyle experiences over traditional city breaks.

Morocco’s tourism surge

Morocco’s growing tourism momentum adds context to the recognition. Business Insider Africa reported last year that Morocco secured the 13th position worldwide in the latest UN Tourism rankings, placing it firmly among the globe’s most-visited destinations, a milestone for North Africa and a signal of the continent’s expanding role in the global travel economy.

Between January and October 2025, the Kingdom welcomed 16.6 million visitors, representing a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
