Theme: Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action

The ACTS Pathways Academy (APA) is a dynamic learning ecosystem that integrates multiple capacity-strengthening approaches to deliver transformative experiences for professionals, researchers, innovators, and leaders across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Building on the legacy of the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS)—a pioneer in science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development in Africa since 1988—the APA Seasonal School 2026 harnesses artificial intelligence (AI) to advance sustainability research and innovation, aligned with SDG 13: Climate Action.

The programme equips participants with practical knowledge, tools, and networks to design AI-driven solutions that strengthen climate resilience, support adaptation, and reduce vulnerability to climate risks. Through collaborative learning, real-world application, and cross-sector engagement, it bridges research, policy, industry, and communities. Participants gain hands-on experience in key sectors such as early warning systems, climate-smart agriculture, low-carbon energy transitions, education, health, retail, and sustainable value chains—positioning them as ethical innovators and leaders for both immediate and long-term climate-resilient development.

Key Features

  • Hands-On Learning: Applied AI projects addressing real-world challenges, with training in AI tools, machine learning, data analytics, and ethical innovation.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Cross-sector co-creation of scalable, affordable AI solutions tailored to Global South contexts.
  • Inclusive Environment: Diverse perspectives from underrepresented groups and early-career professionals for fair, context-relevant innovations.
  • Networking and Partnerships: Lasting cross-regional connections for joint research, career growth, and scalable impact.

Programme Structure (7 Days)

Days 1–4: Full Conference Programme
Intensive learning with two modules per day (eight core modules total). Includes expert-led lectures, applied AI labs, case studies, group discussions, and panel discussions. Lunch and tea breaks provided.

Day 5: Exhibition & Networking
Innovation showcases, project pitches, and structured networking with researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators.

Day 6: Diani Excursion
Guided tour connecting AI to coastal, environmental, and community contexts, with informal reflections and a special executive dinner (for select packages).

Day 7: Closing & Departure
Certificate awards, Departure

Dates: 23–30 August 2026
