The Federal Government, via the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, has successfully revitalized 450 megawatts of generation potential to the national grid, following the thorough completion of scheduled maintenance on the esteemed Geregu National Integrated Power Project located in Kogi State.

The four-week extended minor inspection, executed by Siemens Energy, was meticulously carried out to enhance the reliability and operational efficiency of the facility. This initiative further augmented the plant’s Equivalent Operating Hours, fortifying one of the nation’s most pivotal generation assets.

This progressive development was revealed in a statement on Monday by Emmanuel Ojor, the Head of Corporate Communications and External Relations at NDPHC.

According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, the restoration of Geregu is an integral aspect of a broader initiative aimed at rejuvenating previously inactive assets within the company’s power fleet. The statement articulated, The Niger Delta Power Holding Company has triumphantly reinstated an additional 450MW of generation capacity to the national grid following the successful completion of scheduled maintenance on the Geregu NIPP plant.

The comprehensive four-week extended minor inspection, conducted by Siemens Energy, was performed to enhance the operational reliability, performance, and efficiency of the facility, consequently extending both the plant’s Equivalent Operating Hours and its operational longevity.

She disclosed that six gas turbines, which had lain dormant for several years, have been reinstated over the past twelve months, including GT4 at Calabar NIPP, GT1 at Omotosho II, GT1 and GT2 at Benin NIPP, GT4 at Sapele NIPP, and GT3 and GT4 at Alaoji NIPP, all poised for pre-commissioning as soon as the gas supply issues are addressed. Collectively, the rehabilitated units are projected to contribute around 875MW to NDPHC’s mechanically available capacity, marking one of the most significant single-year recoveries achieved by a power generation company in recent times.
