KCB and Visa Partner to Expand Tap-to-Phone Payments in Kenya

KCB Bank Kenya and Visa have entered into a new partnership to introduce Tap-to-Phone payments to merchants across the country.

The solution will allow business owners to accept card payments directly on NFC-enabled Android smartphones.

This removes the need for traditional POS devices and lowers the cost of digital payment acceptance, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.

A Simpler and More Accessible Digital Payment Experience

Speaking during the announcement, KCB Bank Kenya Director of Retail Banking Jane Isiaho said the partnership will transform how merchants receive payments.

She noted that the innovation gives every business owner the ability to accept card payments using only a smartphone. As a result, merchants will reduce operational costs and serve customers faster and more securely.

The Tap-to-Phone technology runs on the Visa Acceptance Platform, which uses tokenization and global security standards to protect every transaction.

KCB has integrated the solution into its digital strategy as it continues to roll out convenient, seamless, and secure ways for customers to transact.

Visa Country Manager for Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia John Njoroge added that the collaboration will open new opportunities for small businesses.

According to him, Tap-to-Phone removes traditional barriers linked to POS devices and allows merchants to use the smartphones they already own. He emphasized that this is how Kenya can scale digital payments and promote financial inclusion.

In addition, the initiative supports KCB’s continued investment in digital platforms and its commitment to empowering merchants with modern tools. It also aligns with Visa’s goal to grow safe and affordable digital payments across the region.

Together, KCB and Visa aim to accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation and strengthen the country’s position as a leader in innovative payment solutions.
