CASTRIES, St Lucia – Nomination day for Saint Lucia’s general elections came and gone, in extraordinary fashion and flavour, that of a carnival atmosphere around the island.

  • Three political parties – Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), The United Workers Party (UWP), and the National Congress Party:
  • SLP contesting 15 constituencies;
  • UWP contesting all 17 constituencies;
  • The National Congress Party is contesting two constituencies in the Castries basin:
  • Nine independent candidates are contesting in five constituencies.

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre noted, “This election is about progress. It’s about people. And nomination day reminds us that the Labour spirit is alive in every constituency.”

Allen Chastanet, political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), said on social media: “What a memorable nomination day morning!! From birthday vibes to bringing big energy to each constituency and celebrating our amazing candidates,” adding “All 17 of our candidates are officially nominated and the message is clear: the United Workers Party is READY. Ready to lead, ready to serve and ready to deliver real solutions for the people of Saint Lucia. From Gros Islet to Vieux Fort, from Micoud to Soufrière, this is a united team, one vision, one mission: Secure a better future for all.’

“The Code is Yellow. The time is now!”

“Commence on the 1st day of December, 2025 at the hour of six-thirty in the forenoon and kept open till the hour of six in the afternoon in the following polling stations established in the various polling divisions comprised in the said electoral district, … and that the number of votes given to the several candidates will be finally counted on the 2nd day of December, 2025 … persons are hereby required to take notice and govern themselves accordingly’, said the Saint Lucia Government Gazette, Extraordinary, Vol. 194 • Issue 26 • Friday November 21, 2025.”

“Advance Poll will be taken for the election now pending for the said electoral district, and that such poll will commence on the 28th day of November, 2025, at the hour of six-thirty in the forenoon and kept open till the hour of six in the afternoon in the following polling stations established in the various polling divisions comprised in the said electoral district.”

“Pilgrims of Hope”

The Jubilee year for Christians, the universal Catholic Jubilee Year of 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” overlaps with the general election campaign in Saint Lucia.

The United Workers Party said in a press release that they will be participating in the Sunday activities at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, which begin from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm with the Catholic community at the celebration of the Jubilee of the faithful.

“The United Workers Party will then proceed to the Dennery Valley from 6:00 pm after the end of the Jubilee celebrations to launch our Manifesto.”

On Sunday, the Saint Lucia Labour Party advised that it honours the request of His Grace Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire and suspends all mass crowd campaign activities as a mark of respect for the Catholic church’s Jubilee celebrations.

“The other Party initially agreed, but now disregards the Church’s appeal and is moving ahead full steam with their activities in a desperate act of vote-catching!”

Delivered to the people of Saint Lucia

Prime Minister Pierre remains steadfast that his administration has “delivered to the people of Saint Lucia,” and affirms, “Let’s keep moving forward together with Labour.”

Saint Lucia’s progress is not by chance, the prime minister advised:“ It is the result of steady leadership, responsible management, and a government that puts people first. Over the past four years, Saint Lucia has seen real economic growth that touches every community.”

The Prime Minister continued:

“From tourism to the youth economy grants and support, to roads, schools, and community spaces that have been rebuilt and restored. Debt levels were managed responsibly while still expanding social support. I continue to guide our nation with honesty, discipline, and a clear plan for building a stronger future. Increase in minimum pension to $725 monthly, Universal Secondary School Education.

“We made a promise to return St Jude hospital to its rightful home, stating: “This new St Jude hospital is not just a building; it is a promise fulfilled. It is modern, safe, and equipped to serve the needs of a growing nation. It doubles the capacity of the old facility, includes new surgical theatres and improved pediatric care, and provides the kind of infrastructure that tells every patient who walks through its doors: you matter,” said Prime Minister Pierre.

On December 1, the UWP promises to fix the problems in healthcare, saying:

“We will deliver for you! Over the last 4.5 years, healthcare in Saint Lucia has declined significantly despite the introduction of a 2.5 percent Health and Security Levy. St Jude hospital remains unfinished, hospitals and health centres lack basic equipment and medication, and our doctors and nurses have faced disrespect instead of support. Saint Lucians deserve better. We need real solutions, including National Health Insurance for all, properly equipped facilities and respect for our frontline healthcare workers.”

Celebrating International Children’s Day, Prime Minister Pierre affirmed that, “We reflect on our growing investments to uplift our children. We stand firm, every child deserves a strong start, a bright future, and the full care of their nation.”

Last week, over 1,000 non-established public servants were awarded permanent appointments to the public service.

“No more uncertainty. No more contracts. Just dignity, stability, and the respect owed to every person who has served their country faithfully. This didn’t happen by chance. It happened because the Saint Lucia Labour Party administration believes that when people give their best to the nation, the nation should stand firmly behind them.

“A promise honoured. A commitment fulfilled. A new chapter for public servants across Saint Lucia,” said Prime Minister Pierre.

Conclusion

Government and governance are at their best when they listen, serve, and keep their word, supported by men and women with integrity. Now that the calendar is marked, and candidates are in line for December 1 – voter turnout matters.

The tasks and journey ahead are decisions on the promises made and what was delivered to the people of Saint Lucia.

The UWP said previously that, “Saint Lucia deserves quality representation. Representation that will make their lives better, their communities safer, and create a more conducive environment for their growth and development.”

The SLP says, “From Promises to Reality,” they have delivered on their 2021 Manifesto and are currently “ Moving Forward Together.”

Saint Lucians will get another opportunity to contrast the UWP Manifesto, expected to be unveiled this evening – “Reclaiming Our Future” – built on – Relief, Recovery and Reform.

The SLP Manifesto Launch is scheduled for November 25.

The 2025 general election in Saint Lucia is another historic milestone, set to transform both the political and economic landscape. The people will decide!
