Partnership Introduces Automatic Protection for Buyers
Britam General Insurance, Hotpoint Appliances, and MIC Global Risks have partnered to offer an All-Risks insurance cover on select appliances purchased at Hotpoint stores and online.
The cover is free, valid for 12 months, and activates immediately after purchase.
Eligible appliances include refrigerators, freezers, televisions, select audio equipment, laundry machines, dishwashers, cookers (excluding table-tops) and room air conditioners.
The policy protects customers against accidental damage, power surges, fire, water damage, theft, burglary, transit loss, and even political violence or terrorism.
Customers also receive a repair-or-replace guarantee, with claims processed through Britam’s digital portal. A digital certificate is issued instantly at checkout.

Rising Demand for Household Protection
This partnership comes at a time when demand for home electronics continues to grow. According to the KNBS 2025 Economic Outlook, Kenya’s appliance and consumer electronics market is expected to grow by 11.4% in 2025.
The rise is driven by urbanisation, increased mortgage uptake, and improved consumer confidence.
Britam General Insurance CEO & Principal Officer, James Mbithi, said the initiative supports Britam’s 2025 strategy to boost insurance uptake through digital and lifestyle-focused products.
He noted that many consumers rarely insure home appliances even though they play a central role in everyday living. By integrating the cover into the buying process, he said, protection becomes easy and relevant.
Hotpoint CEO, Ravi Kanani, added that the partnership enhances customer value. He explained that automatic cover at no extra cost gives customers confidence long after they take their appliances home.
MIC Global Risks COO & Principal Officer, Puneet Chawla, said the collaboration also reflects their commitment to simple, accessible insurance. He noted that the goal is to give customers peace of mind from the moment they make a purchase.
Strengthening Access Through Collaboration
More than 40% of urban households in Kenya now own at least one major appliance, a figure projected to exceed 55% by 2027, according to the 2025 Consumer Electronics and Household Report by Research ICT Africa.
As ownership grows, the need for affordable protection also rises.
The partnership leverages each organisation’s strengths. Hotpoint offers customer support and product verification through its service centres. MIC Global Risks facilitates seamless delivery of the embedded insurance. Britam underwrites the policy and manages claim approvals and payments.
