Rethink Amanzi – Securing Our Future
Water is a fundamental driver of socio-economic development, public health, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience. However, water systems across Southern Africa face a convergence of threats: Aging infrastructure, increasing demand, pollution, climate variability, and inequitable access. The theme of the WISA 2026 Conference, “Rethink Amanzi – Securing Our Future,” responds to this urgent context. It calls for a paradigm shift in how water is valued, governed, financed, used, treated, and safeguarded.
This theme challenges stakeholders, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities to move beyond siloed approaches and embrace inclusive, innovative, and forward-thinking solutions. Achieving water security and sustainable sanitation for all will require integrated responses that cut across disciplines, institutions, and geographies.
