ALGIERS – The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) proudly celebrates the success and impact of the ATAF Women in Tax Mentorship Programme, a flagship initiative of the ATAF Women in Tax Network (AWITN) dedicated to advancing gender equality and leadership in Africa’s tax landscape.
Since its inception, the programme has connected emerging women professionals with experienced leaders who provide guidance, encouragement, and inspiration to help them thrive in their careers. It has become a powerful platform for knowledge exchange, confidence-building, and leadership development—ensuring that more women take their place at the decision-making table in tax administration and policy.
At the heart of this transformative initiative stands Her Excellency Madam Veronique Herminie, First Lady of the Republic of Seychelles and outgoing Chairperson of the ATAF Women in Tax Network, who has served as a mentor and role model consistently from the first cohort in 2022 until now, in the fourth. Her Excellency has been instrumental in shaping the mentorship programme’s growth and nurturing a generation of women leaders who are now driving change within their institutions.
Reflecting on her experience as a mentor, Her Excellency shared:
“I am not certain when mentoring others became part of my life, but there is such a satisfying feeling knowing that by listening, sharing, supporting and guiding someone to challenge themselves and ‘be more,’ you have changed a life for the better. Enjoying a front row seat to their professional journey and success brings so much joy and pride. It gives meaning to my own existence.”
Celebrating the foundations Her Excellency laid for the Network, Ms. Mary Baine, ATAF Executive Secretary, shared her deepest gratitude to her.
“ We cannot describe our appreciation to you for your commitment. Spending this week in Algiers is a testament to the value you attach to this cause. May God go before you in All. ATAF is truly appreciative!”
Her Excellency’s passion for mentorship exemplifies the programme’s mission — to empower, uplift, and connect women in taxation across the continent. Her leadership has inspired mentors and mentees alike to embrace mentorship as a tool for transformation and to champion the advancement of women in public finance.
As ATAF celebrates the achievements of the Women in Tax Mentorship Programme by empowering 250 mentors and mentees. The organisation extends its sincere appreciation to Her Excellency Madam Veronique Herminie for her visionary leadership and unwavering support. Her legacy as a mentorship champion will continue to inspire future cohorts and strengthen the network’s efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable tax environment in Africa.
