South Sudan’s Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth, has reiterated the government’s strong support for the East African Communications Organization (EACO) and its ongoing efforts to establish a One Network Area (ONA) across the region.
The ONA initiative, led by EACO, seeks to create a unified telecommunications framework that will drastically lower roaming charges among East African nations.
By adopting a single network system, Member States aim to ease the financial strain on both consumers and operators, enhancing the affordability and accessibility of cross-border communication.

During talks with EACO officials, Minister Lueth emphasized the critical role of regional collaboration in expanding digital connectivity and driving economic integration through affordable telecom services. The discussions also addressed ongoing challenges, such as frequency interference and false roaming, which continue to affect service quality and user experience in border areas.
South Sudan’s endorsement of the ONA initiative aligns with broader regional goals to strengthen connectivity, promote trade, and foster deeper integration among East African nations through modern, reliable, and cost-effective communication infrastructure.
