Kenyan agri-tech startup Synnefa has secured USD 300K in grant funding from the World Resources Institute’s Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) initiative. The grant, awarded through a partnership with Solidaridad, will enable Synnefa to deploy IoT-enabled solar dryers across Kenya.

This funding aims to assist over 800 smallholder farmers in Makueni County, reducing post-harvest losses by 45%, cutting drying times from several weeks to just 2-3 days, and increasing productivity for crops like coffee, fruits, grains, and vegetables.

Founded in 2019 by Stanley Kirui, Synnefa specializes in smart farming technologies including Smart Greenhouses, FarmShield IoT, FarmCloud, and Smart Solar Dryers. These tools are designed to tackle food waste and improve water efficiency. Synnefa has already reached over 7,000 farmers and plans to raise USD 2M in seed funding by 2026 to expand to 150,000 farmers across East Africa.

The startup’s expansion could prevent over 50,000 metric tons of food loss, create job opportunities for youth, and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions from wasted harvests.
