Nearly two-thirds of European cybersecurity professionals now view insider threats as their biggest security risk.
A recent study found that 64% see malicious or compromised insiders as a greater danger than external attackers, with generative AI enabling faster, stealthier, and harder-to-detect intrusions.
Insiders are no longer limited to human actors but increasingly include AI-driven agents using stolen credentials, imitating trusted voices, and operating at machine speed. More than half of organizations reported a rise in insider incidents over the past year, with the government, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors expressing the highest concern. Although most organizations have insider threat programs in place, many still lack advanced behavioral analytics, leaving them exposed. Experts emphasize that stronger governance and AI-powered detection capabilities are urgently needed to confront this new wave of insider threats.
