BIMBANK, Mauritania’s Islamic bank and an early adopter of digital banking, has implemented BPC’s SmartVista Fraud Management solution to strengthen enterprise-wide fraud prevention, meet regulatory requirements, and provide real-time protection across its cards, core banking, and digital channels.
In recent years, the Central Bank of Mauritania has tightened anti-fraud regulations as part of a national programme to improve payment security.
The measures include mandatory real-time monitoring, automated alerts, and detailed reporting across all payment channels.
At the same time, rising electronic payment volumes have made banks more vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts.
To address these challenges, BIMBANK sought a modern, scalable fraud-management system to replace its ageing platform, ensure compliance, and manage higher transaction volumes.
The bank selected SmartVista, which was introduced in two phases: first connecting the bank’s card switch and core banking systems, followed by integration with digital banking services.
This gave analysts a consolidated view of risks and access to a dynamic rules engine for both real-time and near-real-time monitoring.
The system includes adaptive rule scoring, instant notifications through SMS, email and push alerts, and an advanced case-management suite.
It is hosted on-premise to comply with local data sovereignty requirements, with integration options to link third-party services and internal modules.
According to BIMBANK, the solution has enabled the interception of all potentially fraudulent transactions since its deployment, while also providing tools to identify patterns and support long-term fraud and risk strategies.
The bank and BPC plan to continue refining detection logic and introduce machine-learning scoring and extended reporting features.

“Every institution needs future-proven tools to anticipate, prevent and stop fraud on every channel of operation,”
said Nabil Benhmida, Sales Manager Francophone Africa at BPC.
“SmartVista’s advanced, modular design lets BIMBANK plug new channels into a single centralised network, satisfy regulatory compliance and stay ahead of emerging threats in Mauritania.”
Abdellahi Ahmedne, IT Director at BIMBANK, added:
“Before BPC SmartVista Enterprise Fraud Management, we didn’t have the advanced tools needed to detect them in time. Today, we see, stop, and investigate events in real time. BPC’s proven platform underpins our strategy to lead Mauritania in secure banking.”
