UAE-based satellite operator Space42 announced on Tuesday it has signed a comprehensive MoU with Angola’s Military Intelligence and Security Service (SISM) to collaborate on developing advanced technologies across multiple domains over the next five years.

Under the strategic partnership agreement outlined in the MoU, Space42 and SISM will work together to develop and implement solutions across seven priority areas: satellite communications, earth observation, AI, high-altitude platforms (HAPS), national security drones, border control solutions and command and control centre development.

Space42 already has a strong operational presence in Angola, providing 100% coverage of the country through its YahClick satellite broadband service. The company said the service will be enhanced with upcoming expanded solutions and services from its Thuraya 4 satellite, which was placed into orbit in January this year.

“After years of serving the Angolan people through our satellite services, this MoU represents a natural evolution of our commitment to the country,” said Space42 chief commercial officer Sulaiman Al Ali in a statement.

He added that the agreement was the direct result of recent high-level meetings in the UAE between SISM head General João Pereira Massano and Space42’s executive leadership team. During those sessions, Space42 conducted a series of live demonstrations and product presentations showcasing its capabilities in space-based intelligence and AI-powered solutions.

Space42 said the MoU was formalized during a state visit to Angola this week by UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, following an invitation from Angolan president João Lourenço, to strengthen ties between the two nations.
