As a young man, gallerist Timothy Taylor was treated for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Now he is supporting the London NHS hospital where he was treated, the Royal Marsden, by donating all the profits from his gallery’s summer exhibition.
Birdsong (from today until 12 August) features over 15 works by artists including Paula Rego, Yinka Shonibare CBE and Rachel Whiteread. The title is inspired by Sebastian Faulks’s book of the same name, “evoking a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of mortality.”
“My family has supported the Royal Marsden’s world-leading research efforts since my own experience with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” says Taylor in a statement. “I have seen their passion first-hand, and I thank every participating artist for their generosity in supporting this cause. Birdsong embodies the joy that art can lend even in the most challenging circumstances.”
Based in Kensington & Chelsea, the Royal Marsden was the first hospital in the world dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer.
