Kenya, Germany Renew Automotive Cooperation

Kenya and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in the local automotive industry. The renewed partnership will support skills development, modern assembly technologies, and the promotion of green mobility solutions.

Germany’s Commitment to Kenya’s Automotive Growth

Germany’s Deputy Ambassador to Kenya and Trade Counsellor, Alexander Fierley, announced the cooperation during his visit to the Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) premises in Thika.

He praised CFAO Mobility Kenya for leading the country’s automotive assembly efforts through its investment in KVM. Fierley emphasized Germany’s interest in partnerships that drive innovation and economic growth.

“Germany recognizes the critical role of the automotive industry in economic development. Our renewed cooperation with Kenya seeks to build stronger linkages, transfer technology, and boost competitiveness. We see KVM as a strategic step in the right direction,” he said.

Volkswagen Assembly at KVM

KVM has resumed local assembly of Volkswagen vehicles such as the Toureg, Tiguan, and T-Cross under the level 2 Completely Knock-Down (CKD) arrangement. This step signals renewed focus on localization, job creation, and technology transfer in Kenya’s automotive sector.

CFAO Mobility Kenya’s Role

Arvinder Reel, Managing Director of CFAO Mobility Kenya, welcomed the partnership.

“We are proud to host the Deputy Ambassador of Germany and welcome the renewed collaboration between our two countries. Our investment in KVM shows confidence in Kenya’s automotive industry and our commitment to economic growth. Through this investment, we are creating jobs, transferring skills from global OEMs, supporting SMEs, and offering affordable vehicles to Kenyan consumers,” he said.

Strengthening the Automotive Value Chain

This visit highlights the strong partnership between Kenya and Germany. CFAO Mobility Kenya remains dedicated to boosting value addition and creating opportunities within the automotive value chain.

Moreover, the collaboration is expected to unlock new opportunities for investment, innovation, and market growth as KVM expands its production capacity.
