Airtel Tanzania has reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zanzibar Communication and ICT Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) that outlines a framework to collaborate on key infrastructure projects in Zanzibar to expand access to telecoms and internet services.

According to media reports on Tuesday, the MoU calls for Airtel Tanzania and ZICTIA to initiate projects that will improve broadband connectivity, boost digital inclusion, and deliver technology-driven community support services.

Apart from infrastructure, Airtel Tanzania and ZICTIA will also work together to promote financial inclusion by making digital financial services more accessible and convenient for users.

According to Tanzanian newspaper The Guardian, Zanzibar’s Minister for Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Khalid Salum Mohammed, described the agreement as a milestone in advancing the government’s digital agenda.

“We believe in public-private partnerships, not just as policy, but as a practical pathway to accelerate e-government, e-learning, e-health and e-commerce – especially in underserved communities,” he said in a statement.

“We are investing in infrastructure and partnerships that empower communities, support government priorities, and position Zanzibar for a future defined by innovation and inclusive growth,” added Airtel Tanzania MD Charles Kamoto.
