The Museum Of Fine Arts, Houston is proud to present the acclaimed exhibition William Kentridge: ‘In Praise of Shadows’ from June 25–September 10, 2023. The exhibition surveys 35 years in the career of the celebrated South African artist. With more than 80 works, spanning various mediums, Kentridge’s exploration of the visual arts, sculpture, film, and theater is not one to miss. Born in Johannesburg in 1955, Kentridge dedicated his career to examining the social and political conditions of his homeland. From the Apartheid era (1948-1991) to South Africa’s transition to desegregation and democratic elections (1991-1994) , his art reflects the multifaceted journey of the nation.

The exhibition showcases his renowned charcoal drawings and animated films, alongside prints, bronzes, tapestries, and theater models. Through the use of light and shadow, Kentridge directly confronts the aftermath of colonialism.
